Eight Louisiana Schools Nationally Recognized for Student Achievement

 

In this recent article, which was published on the Louisiana Department of Education website, eight Louisiana schools are nationally recognized for student achievement. The article states that these students are “nationally recognized for exceptional student performance or for closing the achievement gap among historically disadvantaged students. Two schools have been named National Title I Distinguished Schools by the National Title I Association, and six schools have been nominated by the state to receive 2018 National Blue Ribbon Schools awards from the U.S. Department of Education (USDOE).”

In Case You Missed It: Two Louisiana Educators Surprised with National Award and $25,000 Prize

 

According to the Department of Education, “two Louisiana educators were surprised with the 2017-2018 Milken Educator Award, a prestigious national recognition that comes with an unrestricted check for $25,000.”

Those teachers come from Edgar Martin Middle School in Lafayette and Alice M. Harte Charter School in New Orleans.

What an amazing accomplishment give to two of our own! Congratulations to these people are changing the lives of our youth.

2019 Louisiana State Teacher of the Year Application Process Now Open

 

For several years, The Louisiana Department of Education has recognized their talented and exceptional teachers – and now the application process is open for 2019. Each School district is encouraged to nominate up to three teachers and three principals, one per division (elementary, middle, and high), as their district-level honorees. Then each of these candidates are invited to submit a state-level application.

U.S. Department of Education Announces 2017 Blue Ribbon Schools: 6 Louisiana Schools Included

 

According to the Louisiana Department of Education, “The U.S. Department of Education (USDOE) recognized six Louisiana public schools as 2017 National Blue Ribbon Schools. The Blue Ribbon Schools program honors schools that are either high-performing or have closed achievement gaps, especially among minority or disadvantaged students. These schools demonstrate that all students can achieve at high levels. Nominated schools submit applications to the USDOE for the award.”

The six recognized schools in Louisiana included Baton Rouge Foreign Language Immersion Magnet School in East Baton Rouge, Bayou Vista Elementary School in St. Mary Parish, Forest Heights Academy in East Baton Rouge Parish, Midland High School in Acadia Parish, Northwestern State University Middle Lab School in Natchitoches Parish, and Vincent Settlement Elementary School in Calcasieu Parish.

Nicholls’ Geomatics program receives Surveying Education Award

 

This past August, Nicholls State University was nationally recognized for their Geomatics program. Geomatics is the study of the branch of science that deals with the collection, analysis, and interpretation of data relating to the earth’s surface. The award recognizes programs advancing licensure for surveyors to preserve public health, safety and welfare.

This is the second year in a row Nicholls has been presented with this honor along with being one of only five programs to have been honored both years. According to Nicholls State University, schools are chosen based on their student outcomes, student involvement, outreach and recruitment.
